New Zealand has some of the world's strictest biosecurity laws to protect its unique ecosystem. The Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) enforces strict rules on food, plants, and animal products. All travelers must complete a declaration and may face heavy fines for non-compliance.
Entry Process
- 1Complete NZeTA (visa waiver) and pay IVL before travel if required
- 2Fill out Passenger Arrival Card on the plane
- 3Proceed to immigration and passport control
- 4Collect checked baggage
- 5Pass through MPI biosecurity screening (X-ray and detector dogs)

Declaration Tips
- β’ When in doubt, declare it - fines up to NZD $400 for non-declaration
