Australia has some of the world's strictest biosecurity laws to protect its unique ecosystem. The Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF) enforces these regulations. Failing to declare items can result in heavy fines or prosecution.
Entry Process
- 1Complete Incoming Passenger Card on the plane
- 2Answer biosecurity questions honestly - declare ALL food, plants, and animal products
- 3Proceed through immigration (SmartGate for eligible passports)
- 4Collect checked baggage
- 5Pass through biosecurity and customs inspection
- 6Detector dogs may screen your luggage
Prohibited Items
- Fresh Meat & Meat ProductsIncludes jerky, sausages, canned meat from most countries
- Dairy ProductsMilk, cheese (except processed), yogurt from non-approved countries
- Fresh Fruits & VegetablesAlmost all fresh produce is prohibited
- Seeds, Nuts, PlantsMany require permits; undeclared items will be confiscated
- Eggs & Egg ProductsFresh eggs and many egg products are prohibited
