About Cameras
Cameras are generally allowed for personal use. Professional equipment may require declaration or permits in some countries. Battery restrictions apply (spare batteries in carry-on only). Used personal cameras are typically duty-free. Some countries restrict drones or require registration.
General Rules Apply
We don't have specific rules for Cameras yet. Below are the general rules for Electronics that apply to Cameras.
📋 Carrying Limits
- Quantity Limit:Personal use subject to customs assessment and applicable restrictions. Ordinary passengers: aggregate allowance up to FOB USD500 per person per arrival for qualifying foreign-acquired personal goods remaining in Indonesia, shared with other qualifying personal goods; not a device-count allowance. Separate rules apply to reimports, temporary imports and special passenger categories.
✅ Declaration Requirements
⚠️Declare imported baggage to customs by arrival, including goods within the USD500 allowance. Air and sea arrivals use All Indonesia; land arrivals use ECD. Oral declaration is available to passengers over 60, passengers with disabilities, regular Hajj pilgrims registered for the relevant Hajj season, VVIP state guests, and passengers or crew at locations designated by the Director General. The allowance does not determine whether a declaration is required.
Form needed: All Indonesia (air/sea); ECD (land); eligible oral declaration

📝 Important Notes
- •✅ ALLOWED
- •Personal-use electronics are allowed subject to customs assessment and applicable import restrictions. For ordinary passengers, qualifying personal goods acquired abroad and remaining in Indonesia share an aggregate duty-free allowance of up to FOB USD500 per person per arrival; this is not a separate electronics allowance or a device-count guarantee. Qualifying goods within the allowance are not charged VAT and are exempt from income tax. The excess attracts 10% import duty and applicable VAT: for non-luxury goods, 12% × 11/12 of the import value; personal goods remain exempt from income tax. Luxury goods may also attract luxury-goods sales tax. Returning Indonesian goods and goods brought temporarily for re-export follow separate reimport or temporary-import procedures. Special passenger categories have different relief. Indonesia uses Type C/F plugs (same as Europe). 230V, 50Hz.
- •⚠️ IMEI Registration: Cellular phones, cellular handheld computers and cellular tablets brought from abroad for use with an Indonesian SIM require the applicable IMEI registration. Foreign visitors can register at a cellular operator outlet for local-network access lasting at most 90 days; foreign-SIM roaming needs no customs IMEI registration. Devices already registered on a previous visit need not be registered again. Where customs registration is required, register on arrival before leaving the terminal, or no later than 60 days after arrival. Registration after leaving normally loses allowance relief; see the FAQ for the five-day exceptions. Electronic submission via beacukai.go.id produces a QR code for customs verification and does not by itself complete the procedure.
❓ Frequently Asked Questions
Will I be taxed for bringing multiple Cameras and Photography Equipment?
Personal items already in use are typically duty-free. However, if they are brand new (unopened) or the quantity is excessive, customs may consider it for commercial use and require taxes. Keeping purchase receipts is recommended.
What should I consider when bringing Cameras and Photography Equipment?
The most important thing when bringing Cameras and Photography Equipment is to confirm if it exceeds the duty-free allowance or declaration threshold of your destination. It's recommended to keep purchase receipts and ensure Cameras and Photography Equipment is in its original packaging for easier customs inspection. If the Cameras and Photography Equipment is of high value, always use the red declaration channel.
❓ More Questions
What is IMEI registration?
IMEI registration enables cellular phones, cellular handheld computers and cellular tablets brought from abroad to use Indonesian SIM cards. Foreign visitors may register at a cellular operator outlet for access lasting at most 90 days; this is not an unregistered-use grace period. Foreign-SIM roaming needs no customs IMEI registration, and devices registered on a previous visit need no repeat registration. If customs registration is required, declare the device on arrival and complete registration before leaving the arrival terminal, or at a customs office no later than 60 days after arrival. Electronic submission via beacukai.go.id or Mobile Beacukai generates a QR code; present it with your passport, boarding pass, invoice if available and other supporting identification for customs verification and fulfillment of applicable obligations. Submission alone does not complete registration. Registering after leaving normally means duty and import taxes are assessed on the full device value without the USD500 allowance. Relief can still apply if customs recorded the IMEI and passport on arrival and you complete the procedure, including presenting the QR code, within five days of arrival; a quarantine exception allows completion within five days after quarantine with an official completion certificate. Registration itself is free, but applicable import duty and taxes must be paid.
